I am going to put this on youtube, and send it to all my representatives. What do you think?

It’s a shame.

It’s a shame when in a free country any of its citizens become so filled with hate for the style of government that they transpose their hatred onto the military. I can understand in a non-free country where people hate a military that’s oppressing them, but when you’re free, and the military isn’t oppressing you, but defending you, why do you hate them?
The city council of Berkeley, California has told the Marines to leave their town. Not only is that unlawful and against the civil and personal rights of the US citizens who are Marines, it’s just hate-filled. If in a free country I as an American citizen can’t go to Berkeley, California and do what is lawful, then Berkeley California is no longer part of this free country. If a government body, whether by council, or by individual, infringes upon the individual rights of its citizens, freedom has been lost. It then becomes a dictatorship.
Why are they against the Marines? Because of what the Marines are doing? What are the Marines doing? The US Marines are doing exactly what the lawfully elected representative government of the United States has told them to do. Did the Marines do something on their own? No! If the representatives of the lawfully elected government vote for a policy to send the Marines to war with Iraq, the Marines have no choice but to go to war with Iraq. If you have a problem with the War, then you need to talk to the people that made the decision to go to war, the representatives in the House and the Senate, most of whom voted for the War, even though they don’t want to admit it now. Were they tricked? Well, then blame it on the people who tricked them with the information, which is still not the Marines. Was it the President? He was working on the same information that all the senators were, so was he tricked too? Who should you blame? Definitely the Marines and/or any of the Armed Forces cannot be blamed.
So why do the people of Berkeley, California hate the Marines? Maybe it’s what they stand for. The Marine’s Oath does not state anything evil or unlawful:
Article 1 of the Marines’ Code of Conduct says, “I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.”
Article IV of their code states: “I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
So, the people of Berkeley hate the people who are sworn to “give their lives in their defense”. Why? I don’t care what you believe, that’s just ungrateful and hateful.
The Marines’ Oath states: “I, (state your name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice, so help me God.”
Maybe the city council in Berkeley doesn’t want others to protect the Constitution. Maybe they don’t agree with the Constitution. Maybe they don’t want this to be a free country and have a representative government, which is funny, because they themselves are representatives of the people of Berkeley, California.
My assumption is that most of the people in Berkeley would state that they believe in the idea of “celebrating our diversity”. So why don’t they celebrate the diverse ways of the Marines? Or do they just celebrate the diverse ways of people who believe like them? Well, that is neither “diverse” nor “diversity” and is intolerant. So, they’re not “celebrating diversity”.
What do the people of Berkeley through their representative government want? They’re unhappy with the decisions of the people who were voted into office to represent us. They don’t want the Constitution and/or the government it stands for. They don’t want freedom for anyone else but themselves because they’re selfish. What they want is an idealistic world that doesn’t need someone to protect us, so that we can have “peace” and so that they’re not afraid anymore. They actually believe we can have peace with people who will both cut their victims’ heads off on the one hand, and blow themselves up on the other, all the while using negotiation. (Peace at all costs is slavery.) They have a hatred of the American Constitution, Freedom, and even the United States itself.
So they (People of Berkeley) are now going against the laws of the representative government to violate the rights of a minority (in number) and run them (the Marines) out of town, because of bigotry and hatred.
If this was Georgia and the minority were African Americans, it would not, and should not be tolerated.

And the amazing thing is that the Marines would still fight and die for the people in Berkeley. That would be character, something the people of Berkeley know nothing about.

Unlike in many parts of the world, our Marines/Military, hav civilian bosses. If the Folks in Berkeley have a beef, its not with the Marines, its with their civilian bosses. They are just following orders!

The Folks in Berkeley, like with many liberals, seem to feel that if you run around and kiss everybody on the forehead, things everywhere will be great. Unfortunately there are radicals everywhere.

Just heard last night on the news, the city council "retracted" their statement about the Marines getting out. I guess the threat of no Fed money got to them

This CRAP makes me sick. How do these people sleep at night. They treat the MEN as though they are cold blooded killers with no concsoius {spelling}, which they are not. The Marines and other services are not indescrimanetly killing women and children they are protecting a people who have asked for help. If their ideas of free love are not based on the sacrifice of the brave men then let them enlist/

The city council backed down only after an overwhelming flood of messages and emails; almost all of which supported the Marines in particular, and the armed forces in general. The threat of federal withdrawal of funding also was a big stick.
As a Californian, I have to say that the city council and the more vocal citizenry of Berkeley's attitude is something I'm ashamed of. True, the town itself is nice and not everyone there shares the same views as the more vocal ones; but I sure wish that the troublemakers (my choice of words, my opinion) could see what it's like to live in a society whose rights have NOT been guaranteed by a strong military. They ought to be giving thanks every day for all our soldiers, both active duty and vets, who have given so much to insure that freedom.

Sad that the loss of money has to make them ACT like responsible citizens...

That I might have had to sacrifice my life during my 8yrs in the Navy to protect those pig headed council members... Disgusts me. aua

I would gladly give my life to defend the freedoms that these people for some reason oppose... But I guess you have to look at it this way too, it's their freedom to think and say bad things about the Marines. It still doesn't make it right.

Bloods boiling, I better stop.

RE: Funny.

Here in Ann Arbor we have been called the Berkley of the East. The city council actually passed a resolution condemning military help to the Israelis. l think they also passed one condemning the war in Iraq. We regularly get some old hippies that have an anti war rally every Tuesday at the Federal building. At the start of Gulf War II another group came together to protest the war in front of the Federal Building. I was tasked to work it. I saw a guy with an old VW van park it directly across the street from where the protest was going to be. He had the van painted with all sorts of 101st Airborne art work and sayings such as support our troops. I am one of few veterans that work for the Ann Arbor Police Department. I went over to the guy and we talked. He was in the 101st during Vietnam. I told him I was in the 101st during the first Gulf War. We talked about how these people were lucky to have people like us willing to go into harms way to protect their ability to protest against us.

I think pulling the Federal funds was a great move and I am glad that Berkley backed down. Now if someone could just bring some sense to our council.

The problem is with public schools in larger cities and public colleges/universities. People of a far left, basically communist ideology run them and teach in them. They use freedom supplied to them to promote this ideology. Any way to attack or snipe at a non-communist America is their purpose in life. Even though communism has failed to keep its promises every time it has been tried, still they push it. Universities and colleges are chock full of these kinds everywhere except the hard sciences. Some kids absorb it and believe it. They are trained to call anything else a lie – even factual information. For your reading frustration, I recommend a book written by the former communist David Horowitz. The title is The Professors. Your tuition and tax dollars pay these people to brainwash your kids. They teach blind hatred. The great Ward Churchill is from my neck of the woods, I am sorry to say. When the contents of his little 9/11 essay became widely known, and he received some criticism for it, he mobilized his student lemmings. I remember video on the news showing his supporters. One was a young woman who was screaming (literally) that America stood for racism and murder. Why would she continue to soil herself by staying in such a horrible country? Hypocrisy, plain and simple. She has it good here.

Global warming is another means to attack. People like these blame President Bush for GW, as if he could really cause it. It isn’t about global warming, it is about global socialism. Remember that socialism is the technical term for communism. When one claims to speak for ‘the environment’, keep in mind that the environment is everywhere. This means that they get to control everything because anything will ‘affect the environment’ in some way. A great book on this The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism by Christopher Horner. There are a lot of interesting facts in there that you won’t see in the mainstream media.

These people write from a script that they can’t deviate from. You ask them why they didn’t criticize Clinton for attacking Yugoslavia without Congressional or UN approval. They have no answer. You ask them why they didn’t complain when the Clinton Administration was found to have operatives going around illegally monitoring and illegally taping cell phone calls of Republicans (true domestic spying for purely political purposes). They have no answer. You ask them why an absolutely horrible hurricane season did not happen in 2006, as they predicted. They have no answer. I have sparred with this kind of people in the letters to the editor and in the online comment boards at the Springfield paper. I will continue to do so. They have no trouble telling flat out lies and half-truths. They can get quite nasty. They must be challenged. Do so at every opportunity. Do not sink to their level. Use facts - they absolutely hate that.

They have diversity, except when it comes to thought or opinion.

Don’t expect Barack or Hillary to criticize these Code Pinko types. They won’t criticize their base.

As you can see, I am a tad opinionated on the matter. I consider it important. Dismount from soapbox . . . now.

So Tibby, equating Far left viewpoints with communism?

which one of these would you subscribe to instead:

1- a government organized for the defense of survival "rights." Also, distribution goes by the principle "from each according to his/her ability, to each according to his/her work."

2- the government disappears and there is economic cooperation as well. The principle of distribution becomes "from each according to his/her ability, to each according to his/her need."

3- A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition

4- A constitutional republic where the head of state and other officials are elected as representatives of the people, and must govern according to existing constitutional law that limits the government's power over citizens

I think far right folks subscribe to #3.. I like #4

I am sorry, I have read this a few times and I still can't find the Military Vehicle content. I was going by the guidelines set forth by our leaders in this thread the last time we discussed it:

http://steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=11575

There are 8 million websites and forums if you want to post your opinions about people whose opinions differ with yours.

This isn't it.

We do the Historic Military Vehicles hobby no service with threads like this.

One day, we might need the help of a Legislator in a place like Berkeley. And they might not want to help us. But if they read this, you can be dammed sure they won't help us.

"Politics related to the MV hobby" means things like surplus being curtailed, discontinuation of SF-97 issuing, restriction of licensing (like the recent event in Wisconsin), etc.

Is there any word on the Wisconsin issue, I have not heard anything on the Pinz front
Yes, it is being corrected via legislation. There was an article in this Month's Copy of Supply Line (one of the MVPA magazines).
