What is meant to tow it ? A HET ? Or something bigger ?

It isn't really a trailer. Note the diffs on the axles - they're powered (and have lockers even). This is the back half of a mk48/16, like a hemtt that hinges in the middle. The driveshaft is in the bed of my 5ton. The drawbar is a cobbled together piece to allow it to be towed by a truck, but the brake and electrical and hydraulics are plumbed like a truck, not like a trailer.

I've convinced myself I want a mk48 to make it complete.... i giggle every time I see the warning sticker on the back that says not to exceed 100,000 lbs on the pintle hitch. ..

Now that you have the largest semi dolly on the block, you have to get an MK-48 to complete it. They were selling the rear ends of an MK-48 in this area several months ago, but it had the knuckle boom crane instead of the 5th wheel. They went cheap as no one had a way to move them apparently, there was no tow hitch, just a bolt on frame attachment(plus the driveshaft) where it bolts to the MK-48 like yours does! Carry on!

I am not a doctor but my diagnosis is one you have the Mean Green Disease ( have to buy everything olive drab) and invertitas. ( post pictures upside down). There is no cure for MGD but to go bankrupt and for the invertitas ask a friend to put a arrow on your pics as to North.

What did the jarheads do with all the front ends for these? Surplused off hundreds of rear sections.
We shipped a good 20 out of FL. a few years ago, some were a complete mk48/what ever RPU, some just the FPU, there are 5 trailers(RPU) that can be interchanged to hook to the FPU, SO I am guessing what we are seeing now are the extra RPUs. Also the complete MK48/RPU was designed to pull a second RPU as a trailer (drive shaft dropped), If the puller was MK48/MK15, it could supply hyds to the towed RPU for crane, winch, container/ribbon bridge lift.
