DSCF2807.JPG DSCF2808.JPG DSCF2809.JPG DSCF2810.JPG DSCF2811.JPG This is a Jeep Steering Linkage Kit (2530-735-1411). Are any of our Jeep Gurus familiar with this Kit. Is it applicable for the MB, GPW, M38, & M38A1 jeeps. Here are several pics of the boxes, and the parts to the kit. I have a 1953 M38A1, and I would like to rebuild the front end this summer, and if this kit will work correctly on my Jeep I would like to use it...........thanks.

All the below posts are what I sent to another thread where we started this great treasure hunt. I thought it better to get more of the backround info in one place.

This FSN: 2530-735-1411 was assigned on 01-01-1963.
Part of your problem when looking for info is maybe that you entered that FSN. In the 70's we went the NSN. So if you insert two zeros, NSN: 2530-00-735-1411, you start to get more info.

That NSN is discontinued, and there were a number of sub NSN's.
2530-00-098-6204
2530-00-932-8938
2530-00-737-5334
2530-00-735-1411

The original FSN had the part number of, (and I don't know what was on the box, might be different) of 00640178. In any case, there were other part numbers:
00640178
17476
17476X
640178
737334

And there may be lots more NSN's and part numbers. I will try looking maybe tonight.

Below is tech data of the components in the box. Normally there is an "End Item" listing attached to the NSN. But sadly, none here. Probably because its so old. This looks like an interesting few hours detective work!

I put the NSN 2530-00-735-1411 into ebay. The above info was written there. Plug it in and take a look see. This guy has a bunch of kits for sale, and he says they fit the above listed trucks.

Do you have an army parts TM for an M38?

Just put all the NSN's and part numbers in ebay. Came up with something for the NSN 1411 and the part number 640178. Take a look see at that part number also.

I just looked in the ORD 9 SNL G-740 Parts manual for the M38, listed in the SS TM forum. Listed in Group 14, Controls, Sub Group 1401, Steering Controls, several parts, listed as FSN: 2530-737-5334, with the ORD part #7375334. On pages 264-266. PDF reader pages 265-267. It LOOKS to me like all the parts with this FSN/Part# ,since all the parts have the same FSN/Part# should be in a kit. Take a look at the pages. See if the parts in your hand are what in the book. I am NOT a truck guy. The old TM's are somewhat over my pay grade. I never had to fool with this old stuff. BUT, I think you kit, is what is listed in the TM.

I think I may have jumped the gun on my assessment--- some of the FC jeeps along with the cj3b, and I believe the cj5, etc. used the 11/16" thread tie rod ends-- the m38/a1 used the 3/4" thread........
