pjpiche1,
I understand why they do it. They do not deploy with their equipment. The military pays big bucks to have Pre Positioned Condition Code A stock at the deployment site. In the event of OIF 2003, we fell in on refurbished CCA tanks in Kuwait. Fresh from a warehouse and ready to go. They were immaculately maintained and ready to beat down the gates of Saddam's ****. The same with most of the other equipment over there. Unit's fall in on the good stuff and have no care what happens to the home station stuff. There are some occasions that you will draw used equipment such as when we deployed for OIF 3, Jan 05 to Jan 06. We received some vehicles that would probably classify as CC/F but everything worked for the most part and they moved under their own power so they were good to go. Thankfully, the military has some really tough standards of acceptance, otherwise, we'd all be left with some 40 year old rust piles rather than working trucks!!!!!

I for one want our boys and girls on the frontline to have the best equipment. Bar none, hands down.

One of the things I don't understand is how these two guys had that much alone time in the desert unsupervised and without friedlies around, no witnesses. Then they are jumping the truck possibly cripiling the A3 badly enough it won't make it home. Then what do you do? Spend the night in unfriendly territory and have a search and rescue team sent after you? Great way to get abducted and be held hostage. That's what I find to be truly stoopid.
