just bought a K5 Blazer

This site is great but overwhelming at first glance. My K5 has pretty thick and runny camo paint. want to paint it either tan or black. Any suggestions for the best way to paint these vehicles. what kind of paint? do i strip the old paint or just sand it down? This is all new to me.
