I have a 3l80 and thinking about swapping to a 700r4.. Are the kickdown cable on my 3l80 and TV cable for 700r4 the same thing ??? Confused because isee people looking for these and wondering if they didnt come on all the 6.5l NA engines ??

OMG.. now after looking at schematics it shows the item i was considering a Kickdown cable as a Modulator...???? same thing ???

Thanks

The 3L80 originally had a vacuum modulator, it was a vacuum diaphragm that monitored throttle position and vehicle load by monitoring the manifold vacuum.
of course diesels do not have manifold vacuum per-Se so the factory came up with a mechanical throttle position sensor.
I have not had a chance to look at the exact setup but believe the hole in the mount is round and have heard of folks filing them to fit the TV cable.
The length is not real important as custom adjustable (both inner and outer) cables are available, what is critical is the geometry, even though TV cable adjustment will affect shift points it should NEVER be used to adjust shift points, there is only ONE correct way to adjust the TV cable, after that if the shift points are incorrect then tuning the governor is called for.
EDIT, I found a better illustration as you can see about 1/3 of the swing from 90 deg towards idle and about 2/3 of the swing towards WOT from 90 deg.
The radius is around 1.1" or 1 3/32" the cable should be "tight" at WOT
