LED Aux/Work Light Question

I want to add some more LED work/fog lights around my 923. I have 2 already but want some extra lighting for around the truck. I would really like to get route clearance lights (Truck Lite) but it is out of my budget at the moment.

My question is, does anyone know the approximate wattage of a Truck Lite route clearance light (LED) in a fog pattern (27w, 42w, 47w, etc.)?

I want to get something similar in brightness but less cost for the time being. Eventually I will get to where I can afford a full route clearance set up, but for the time being I am looking for a more budget friendly option.

Gimp has some nice regular work/flood (50w) lights for a very modest price. They're not LED & the modest price reflects that.

I don't know what the wattage is on those, but if you can get your hands on them it's wrote on the back of the box. Or it should be, sometime's it's on the paper inside instead.


I got some LED clearance lights that have worked real well and they were 1.5 amps each. Just to give you a idea

Yeah, the amps aren't the issue. I will wire up a breaker the cover the amp rating. I'm just trying to find something to match the brightness of route clearance lights.

Thanks for the publicity Rosco! My lights are 50w floods, incandescent, but its a standard par36 bulb. There is led options you can put in them.

I got some led floods from (I think) usmctopgun they are flood and dual voltage 12-24. Might want to send him a PM.

Next question before I start doing anything. I have one set at the moment I plan to install this weekend. Is it best to ground LED fog lights (or any aux lighting for that matter) to the negative terminal on the battery or will grounding to the frame work just the same. I have done searches and cant seem to find a definite answer. I would prefer to go to the frame near the lights so I don't have to run any more cable than necessary.

The stock maker lights ground to the frame, so that's what I did with mine.

Thanks. I know it will work either way, just I'm not an electrician so I wasn't sure if it is better for the batteries/electrical system to go back to the batteries or the frame is good enough.

You having your markers grounded to the frame is good enough for me to go with grounding to the frame.

I don't know if he has any left but Pat, wheelspinner had used ones for sale at the GA rally, might check with him.

I have route clearance lights available..... they are new and have their mounting brackets...... Look for a classified ad shortly......
