LMTM Transmission kickdown solenoid location?

searched the 24P, Unit Maintenance TM and Allison Mechanic troubleshooting guide.. is there an actually kickdown solenoid, momentary switch near the throttle pedal?. if so where is located?

No. The trans controller uses the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS is on top of engine) to provide that information To help steer upshifts and downshifts.

it is easy to re-calibrate it, but you want to insure that the pedal first can rotate the governor input(on top of governor) all the way between the idle stop screw and the full RPM stop screw.

If the pedal can fully actuate the governor input, fully warm up the truck then shut it off. Then it is a simple matter of cycling the power on untill the transmission display comes on, then off, 5 times. This clears the shift points and TPS information. On the 6th power-on, after the trans display is present, fully depress and release the pedal. This stores new 0-100% information for the TPS. Now press the start button and go drive it thru all ranges for a while to re-learn the shift points relative to the new throttle information…

I recaled the TPS last week.. shifts much better.. but today there was an abrupt downshift 7 to 6th at @40mph..when trying to gently accelerate to 45-50mph.. I certainly wasnt giving the 3116 the beans...

Well maybe your TPS has issues. It is a center tapped variable resistor, so with an ohm meter hooked to the wiper connection and either of the other 2 connections you should be able to see a smooth resistance change from idle to full pedal position. Any sudden changes in resistance the controller would interpret as you mashing or releasing the pedal:) A bad/intermittent connection could also be interpreted as a resistance/pedal change…
