I have had several winch trucks. The 5 ton has the 15k winch the 2.5 ton trucks are a 10k winch. Its a nice setup so you can winch both ways. The pto is engaged with a dash switch and its supposed to lock out the trans so you cant put the truck in drive although I never tried.

15k is higher rated, heavier cable. It may be physically larger I haven't measured though. I have a 5 ton winch truck on hand if someone wants to measure their 10k winch.

What's the diff on the 15K winch and 10K? the hydraulic motor?
Probably more than that. used to own a winch that was upgradable from around 9,000lb to 12,000. Same winch body and motors. Only difference was optional longer drum, thicker cable, AND DIFFERENT GEARS put inside. Planetary set was used for the 12,000 version.
