Location of chassis number

Mostly, the chassis number = registration number = VIN number is mentioned on the ID tags on the dashboard but also stamped into the chassis. We looked for the number on the chassis of my 1973 M51A2 but could not find it. Any idea where this is located?

It is important, if the DoT cannot find it they will stamp it in a place they like for a hefty $ 140.

Part of the number might be covered up by the power steering mounting bracket.

The location is above the left front tire near the axle bumper.

I had an issue finding mine and part of the number was covered up. I will post a picture in the morning.

You can buy some punches and mark it yourself for alot less money.

Here is the location of the VIN/Serial number on a 1970 M52A2 and a 1968 M54A2

Neither serial number is very readable.

The M54 is partially covered by the power steering support bracket and the M52 numbers are behing the gearbox and is so lightly stamped I just about missed it.
