Gents, good evening.

This is my first post on SS, but I've been lurking for q while and learning a great deal about MVs. This thread seems like a good place to stick my toe in the water.

I live in northern Nevada, and I have a newly-purchased bobbed Deuce languishing in Phoenix AZ , waiting for me to get it home. (I've never even SEEN the truck except in photos!)

That is 800 miles away, and the summer heat is at its peak in the AZ-NV deserts. I'm NOT acclimated to desert heat, having lived over thirty years in the Arctic. Also, at 68 I am no spring chicken!

So...do I really want to set off driving from PHX in an unknown, forty-year-old truck of an unfamiliar type, or should I have it shipped? A friend has offered to meet me in AZ and escort me for the drive home, but that drives the total cost up even closer to the shipping price. Comforting, though...he's a GOOD friend!

Mark mentions "Masden trucking", but could it really be "MADSEN trucking? We've contacted a few shippers on the 'net, but it's hard to know who is trustworthy. A good referral would be very valuable.

Anyway, I'm very appreciative of all the expertise available here. Quite a few hours have been profitably invested on" Steel Soldiers" since we bought that Deuce on Ebay a couple weeks ago, and I will be much better-prepared when it finally does arrive on our doorstep.

Thanks for any input you may contribute.

Bruce

congrats on the truck and shipping, glad it all worked out.

I didnt have any problems at all insuring mine as a antique vehicle through State Farm. Cost about 7 dollars a month i think with a 4500 dollar stated value and comprehensive, uninsured motorist, and collision. My deuce with the same coverage is about 4.50 a month i think.

I ended up replacing the seat in mine with a MRAP bucket seat... makes all the difference in the world, except for the lack of AC its just like driving any other bobtail semi.
