CUCV lights went out!

Hello all, I'm a new user to this great MV Sight. I'm in Dire need of some advice. I have a 86 CUCV, 48,000 miles all orig except for paint. I was driving the other night and all my lights went out. I have checked fuses ect ect. My turn and brake lights did start to work again, but then quit. Again nothing. The only thing I can see or find. Is out on the Firewall where all the hot and grounds are connected. there is some type of wire broke or burned in half connecting to two sides. Please Help. Thank You!

That is a fusible link. The black plasitic barrel connector is just a cover and it should have the fusible link wire size stamped in it. More than likely a 12.

There are dozens of youtube videos on how to replace them.

Here is a basic primer on what to look for.

Have you downloaded the FREE technical manuals? The wiring diagrams are in the appendix

I have to add a couple of items.

first is there is a ground wire up under the dashboard, drivers side, up a bit, you have to look for it. MINE was connected, but the wire that was in the spade that is how it's connected to the vehicle was rotted and when I tried to pull the spade off the connector off, it literally crumbled in my hands

ALSO, if you have NOT replaced your battery cables, chances are high that they are several years old.

It's a cheap fix - generally less than $100. I got all mine made up with special made ends on them. But you can buy them off the shelf. Most cables are about $15 or less. I believe you need six of them, with the one that runs down to the starter and to the from Nato slave plug the longest ones.
