M1009 Front Wheel Bearing Bolts interchangeable from 1984 to later style?

I have a 1984 M1009, it has the older style wheel bearing bolts. (see image) I am missing one, can the later style bolts be used as a replacement? or do i need to find the original style?

I don't know the answer, but I can tell you this. My step son has a 1978 K10 and it has the newer style lock nuts. One of his was screwed up and I picked one up at the local pull-a-part.
