M1009 Heater Blower Issue

Just curious as I'm new to the M1009 world but I noticed that sometimes the blower motor works and other times it doesn't. The setting of Hi, Med, Low doesn't change anything. When it decides to kick in it blows out plenty of air. Is there a relay or something that could be the part I need to change? Where might I need to look? Would this be something a local Napa store might carry.

Thx for the help guys! This site has been great in helping me thus far. I've had the truck now 3 weeks. :)

The heater switch on dash is a known issue with these trucks. They get dirty, over heat and go bad.

Most NAPA stores will have them, Ask for a 1984 K5 Blazer.

As usual the technical manauls troubleshooting section is always a good place to start.

slik50,
Bought my 1009 in Oct. Came from VERY dusty place, was able to replace blower switch in dash with donor one from 1985 Chevy Pickup I found in local Junkyard for free.. I had judst bought a Tilt Steering column out of same donr and it is now residing in my 1009 with a fully functioning blower switch. The old one is probably all heat damaged, worn out plastic. You may want to take some emery cloth or finr grit sandpaper to your wires if you can get the harness far enough out of the dash. If you're luck enough to have a few "fully stocked" junkyards near your place juast watch you mfg. dates. Good luck!
