You could used a pair of Rubber traction Bar Stops ?? They are about $ 15 to $20 buck for a pair and they would be a good bumper to hold your hood off your light bar

What is the width of these? I see varying widths but does anyone know what the correct width unit would be for the M1009?

I like the Edge 9000 from the looks and the options. Is there a "best" width for a gutter mount set-up? I see units in the 48" or 50".

Thanks!

The current Edge 9M are 44", 50" and 55", where the older model 9000 was 48" and 52". The 48" or 50" are too small for a full size C/K and needs extra long gutter clamps and bolts. The 55" fits almost perfect with the roof line and looks 10X better over the smaller 50" bar. There was also a 52" Edge 9000 that is OK, but the newer 9M 55" is the better fit. However a Aerodynic is 52" and looks good on the full size C/K boxy body trucks.

EDIT (It is a 50", not 55): I have a 50" Edge Freedom on my M1009 and does not fill the roof well. However at this time I cannot post images due to my firewall blocking uploads. I did attached a picture from another post, but does not show a direct front shot.

The 9m/Freedom are NOT period correct, but then again, EDGEs never came with HIDs in them either, so.... whatever floats your boat :p

I get the "period correct" part, good thing I already told myself I am going for 90%+- original with 10% being any upgrades/mods I feel like doing. In the end it is what makes you happy. I hear these same topics on the military weapons boards I frequent :)

I'd go with either an Edge - modified, or a freedom.

Freedom 400 series linear led modules (not corners) will fit in an edge frame, btw. So you can get an edge and upgrade as $$ allows.

I myself do not care about period correctness on my M1009 as it has mostly all LEDs from blinkies to Rigid off-road lights. My M1009 is designed to be a daily driver with normal Texas plates.

My M1031 has classic vehicle registration and vintage lights from the correct time frame. It also has what would also be current if still in service with the Military looking at what goes through recent GL Auctions.

I'm still trying to learn about the Whelen models. I see some used ones advertised as Edge...some as 9000 and some as Edge 9000....LOL.

Are they all the same or is the Edge one model and the 9000 a different model? Also I don't see any info on a 52" 9000 model. All the ones I have seen info on on the web are either 48" or 50".

What edge model would I want to get to allow the upgrades you mentioned?

The Edge refers to all models, but usually refers to the 9000. There is an edge 9000. 10000, 9m, 9 Ultra (9U) and freedom.

All filters interchange except the 9u and freedom endcaps. All 400 series designed for the freedom and Ultra will work. You can use 9u/freedom linear led corner modules with 9u/freedom caps on a standard edge bar, but it won't seal properly.

Cost of a freedom right now is still in the grand range for a decent setup. Alternatively, you can buy an Edge9000 frame and lenses for around $200, then add in the LEDs you want @ ~$60 each. Most are double layer, allowing multiple light configs. You can have any mix of halogen/LED/strobe.

Here's a freedom, with split traffic option.

It is Whelen Edge X as noted below.

Whelen Edge 9000 - 48" & 52" (Retired, original Edge bar from Whelen)
Whelen Edge 9M - 50" & 55" (Current model Edge full height strobe)
Whelen Edge 10000 - 50" & 55" (Serial controlled full height)
Whelen Edge Freedom - 50", 55" (LED version of Edge 10000)
Whelen Edge LFL Liberty - 49" & 54" (low profile Edge LED, 1/2 height of a 9M/9000/10000)
Whelen Edge LFL Patriot - 49" & 54" (low profile Edge strobe, 1/2 height of a 9M/9000/10000)

The Patriot and Liberty are not compatible with any other Edge products, they're 'edge' in name only.

Do NOT get an edge 10000 bar unless you have the controller with it. They're B-link, a proprietary data network, the lightbar cannot be wired with just + and - wires.

There are also a few rare 9000 bars with B-link

The top three red ones look identical to my code 3 red lens unit. Do they have controller boxes?
