M1009 Rear Glass to Sash Relationship (What keeps em together?)

HI guys,
When I bought my M1009 it was sans rear window glass. The regulator was there but the sash, setting rubber, glass, and cam channels were all gone. I've managed to accumulate all the necessary parts and I'm in the process of installing everything, which is going well, except for one major thing.
My sash doesn't hold the glass, even with the setting rubber installed correctly. The window rolls up well but, when I roll it down, it separates from the sash. What the heck is supposed to hold the glass in the sash?

PS The glass is from a local guy and the parts are from LMC.

(I did read the TM and I read past posts (I'm on page 237 of the CUCV forum posts). I found a post with various ideas to glue, pinch, and hammer the sash but I don't know if I like that.)

I used 3M Window-Weld polyurethane in the channel and omitted the rubber. I masked the glass, filled the channel (sash) with poly and quickly pressed the sash on. Ran a finger down either side to remove excess and pulled the tape off the glass. It sets up fast so be sure to remove the tape quickly. It cures to a hard rubber type of feel, still slightly flexible but the glass will never come out. If you ever have to replace the glass you will have to order a new sash. That's how well it holds.

Originally they had a tar paper type of packing that was pressed into the sash with the glass. I have not seen an actual rubber sash tightener. As Mg84648 posted use a good solid urethane adhesive and you will be good to go. I would be careful hammering on the end of that gate glass and let the urethane do the bonding. Just make sure you glue it on the correct way. I have seen it on backwards on new glass out of the box. Not a nice job to get the sash and glass separated again. Good Luck.

As Mg84648;1683118 said. The only difference on mine was I used urethane windshield caulk and the rubber seal that came with the track from LMC. I just let the caulk dry over night before my install. That was a recommendation from the glass shop.

They mechanically press the channel onto the window at the factory. Lacking a large enough press some guys have stood the glass on its side and beat the channel on with a raw hide or rubber mallet. You know how fragile that glass is so I wouldn't recommend that method.
I would go with Doug's suggestion since the caulk is $10 and the poly is $25. Either will work.

You can give it a shot but I don't think it will hold. Maybe try some good door seal adhesive if you have some kicking around. Just clean the channel, rubber and glass with alcohol before applying to give it its best chance for adhesion.

Is this what you used?
