There was a post awhile back on how to fix the gauge by replacing the resistor on the back of it. Just a thought.

Are you sure its the gauge, and not the relay?

well here is the scoop..while drilling out a hole for a vdo water temp gauge....the whole plate with the alt gauge got dropped...
since then the gauge sometimes works and sometimes doesnt
and the needle moves from good charge to bad charge...never had issue untill i droped it
