m101a1 replacement civvy tires ??

Anyone have any recommendations for a good radial replacement size tire for the M101A1 series trailers, stock split-rim wheels, to give roughly the same ride height as the stock 9.00x16 NDTs? Have a M101 coming in with ancient NDT tires and I don't want to buy replacement NDTs, I'd rather get radial tubes, and a set of cheaper, more common civvy tires for it.

Are the rims 16" or 16.5".......seems to me some piece of military equipment had 16.5's on it.

The original tires are 9.00x16, same rims as the M37. I believe the only trucks with 16.5s have been the M880 series, the CUCV M1008 pickups (not the Blazers), and the HMMWV. The HMMWV trailers I believe (M1101 and M1102), and the later M101A2 and A3 trailers used 16.5 inch tires. The M101 and M101A1 are 16.

255/85R16 is an unusual size and going to be expensive. I thought that they were tall and skinny like the LT235/85R16 that replaced them.
