M101a3 Backing Plate and Outward on M101/M116a2 Axle?

This is related to my post in the Gilbert thread trying to help a friend source replacement parts. I got the suggestion that the end assemblies from the a3 drop axle would work on the a2 axle. If I'm reading the TM correctly, the part numbers and mountings are the same from the backing plate out, only differing from the a1 models.

Does anyone have 1st hand knowledge of this? The parts in question are in the green area below.

If the TM says they are the same, then they are the same. Just make sure your reading the Usable On Codes correctly.

Uhhhhhh - That's the part that I'm fuzzy on. I'm hoping somebody will respond that has done it or bombed.
