Your welcome - not bragging but I am a fleet manager for a major trucking co here in Ga - we cover the full US - when I took over the fleet they had a major issue with driveline failure and kingpins - I literally gave the 4 55 gallons drums of chit grease away and got in High Tack Grease - it comes in many names and colors as well - but we have had no failures of lube in over 8 years.

When you go to grease it will take LESS and also push out the old and hangs in there - grease never hurt anything and I never saw a failure from over greasing - I have seen failure from hitting areas with 120 pressurized grease on area's that do not take that pressure or volume @slack adjusters and S cam bushing - you will shove the seal out of the S cam into the brake drum housing - but that is not your situation.

You will NOT be disappointed.

Good stuff, with a trucking company I'm sure you can narrow down what works and what doesn't! I know on the farm that I work, we use the high tack red grease and I don't think have ever had a U joint failure (unless it was missed during greasing). That stuff is ridiculously sticky in comparison to what I have been using. That must be the ticket.

I'll relegate my current grease to lesser things and get some nice tacky grease for the vehicles.

Would the moly grease be acceptable for steering and ball joints? Basically are there any positive uses for a moly grease?

I'm ordering a new Spicer sealed U joint and new cap/bolt kit. Hopefully it works well.

Both Spicer and Federal Mogul(manufacturers of u-joints) recommend lithium grease(not moly).

You may be over thinking this simple failure.

Most likely I am, it is just frustrating dealing with parts of subpar quality failing too early. Just making sure I didn't do something drastically wrong. I don't believe my grease choice had any real bearing on this failure (no pun intended!)
