So I did the jumper wire thing you told me about this morning and it started INSANTLY!!:naner: So I guess now we know it's something to do with the GP controls. I should get my new solenoid in the mail Wed or Thurs so I'll install it and go from there...If it turns out to be the GP card, where can I get ah new one? They seam to be scarce..
I would do a little poking around here on Steel Soldiers. There is one member that not only makes them new, has been revising the design as issues come up. I have a new preproduction card that has some engineering changes that deal with hot start issues. My other ones work great. See if you can find member antennaclimber.

That is great news! That solenoid should work just fine. Now before you install it, has the GP solenoid been re-powered with 12v direct instead of off the big black resistor bank? You might want to look into that as well if not. It can save your glow plugs from a cascade failure. And yes, as Recovery said, look up Antennaclimber here on SS for new GP control cards.

It's powered from the "Big black resister". The solenoid that's on there now seems to be an after market unit. The black plastic ones that look like ford starter solenoids. The new one looks to be a smaller metal unit. which I assume is the factory style one?.. Here's the one I ordered (deleted link)

Drock, can't post links to active auctions or CL ads. It's part of the forum rules. I took them out.

If the one that came with the truck when you got it is the black plastic one, then it is probably the original one. The military did switch to a different solenoid at a later date. The one you said you ordered should be fine.

Do look up the threads on re-supplying the GP solenoid from the 12v buss rather than the big black resistor. A simple way to do that is to disconnect the wire that runs from the GP solenoid to the big black resistor at the resistor side. The terminal lug can then be reamed out a bit, or replaced with a slightly larger one, and be attached to the 12v buss right next to the GP solenoid. Should probably disconnect the batteries before doing that though, as that resistor has 24v on it at all times.
