I have a M1061 and am doing general maintenance and clean up. looks like i need to replace several of the hydraulic hard lines to the wheel cylinders. I've read the TM, but only find master cylinder replacement info. i will need to bleed the system. question is, unlike a car master cylinder with a reservoir on top where you can see level, these just have a fill plug. do you just fill it to the top, bleed and keep it full to the top of the fill plug?? the way they are vented at the fill plug seems to indicate that's how they work and just leak out excess if over filled?? and is there another manual that covers the brake system actual repairs? master brake cylinder? i have TM 9-2336-376-14&P. Thanks

Hi neighbor, I work in maintenance as a profession reading manuals on a daily basis and I find the tm’s can be difficult to cypher sometimes. They have a bad habit of bread crumbing you across half the TM for one simple thing. In your TM under the lubrication chart chapter and on page 3-4 it will point out the master cylinder. Then it will lead you to look at view A on page 3-5 and then down to note 4 on page 3-6 there it will tell you what your looking for in terms of servicing.

If I had to do it, I would consider taking the cyl off and bench bleed it attach temp plug to port, reattach to frame and install lines. then bleeding those 2 wheels at the wheel cylinders by having the trailer hooked up to air to activate push rod on cyl with helper B applying brakes.

I am sure you are aware, but there are 2 master cyls and each does one axle. They are the same part and quite common on M103,m105,xm1073 and all the air over hydraulic trailers. Civy part that can be found at NAPA or a hd parts store if you want to replace at the same time.

thanks--- that's pretty much what i had planned. was just curious about how to fill the master, just add till its full to the brim and bleed away, then refill to top of the fill port since there is no "level" you can see??? and i was guessing this is a very common part, but thanks for confirming it.

and thanks for the description of how info is spread thru the TM's ... that is a wonderfully accurate way to put it. I have a M936A1 and spend an inordinate amount of time going thru the various TM's to find what i would have thought was a simply - common piece of info, its all there, just not where i would have thought.

No problem and anytime. Yea I’m used to our aircraft manuals. Compared to them, these tm’s are a pain. Like you I’ve spent more time than a person should trying to find a reference to something simple I’m working on to just be sent down the rabbit hole and then three books over to where the info is.

I’m north of you up in Tazewell. Everyone just knows Knoxville, so I just put that down. I work at the airport so I’m back and fourth most of the time.

This is the A1 version, but shows everyone not familiar with this trailer what it looks like.
