M1070 HET + M1000 Trailer: Las Vegas, NV

DIELCO Crane Services in Las Vegas purchased a M1070 HET last year and replaced the transmission; the owner was gracious enough to allow one of our local Chapter members to borrow it for local parades & shows as long as it wasn't being used on a job. It is in amazingly good shape and has low miles/hours.

Several months ago, they were the high bidder for the M1000 trailer out of Texas. It turned out to be quite a bargain, as it only required 4 new tires/wheels, and 1.5-days of work for the company welder to straighten out & repair one rear loading ramp, as well as a few side tie-down brackets. Other than that, it was in excellent condition and everything works.

I got to drive it a few miles away from the yard this past weekend, and I was amazed at how well the trailer tracks the path of the tractor. Backing it was easier than I thought, since the trailer wheels turned; just a little steering to set the general direction & I was able to back through an S-turn to put it back into its parking space.

Both of these are an incredible setup, and DIELCO hopes to have both at work very soon, moving some electrical company transformers through some very tight areas.

Many thanks to the owners of DIELCO Crane Service for their continued sponsorship of our local chapter and the use of their M1070 HET.

Did that trailer come out of Red River? If so, I saw it loaded on the way out. It looked nice and completely dwarfed the trailer it was sitting on. It made the other trailer look like a toy.:tank:

I'm not sure if it came out of RRAD or not; as soon as I saw it listed on GovPlanet I notified the owner of Dielco; he was happy with the overall purchase (including shipping & repairs). He said that their tire/wheel supplier had the 17.5-inch wheels in stock, for only around $85/each.

Couldn't agree more...!

Do you happen to know if that transmission was just replaced with a stock one, or eventually changed out to something stronger?

Thanks for sharing your HET-experience!

G.
Thanks G!

I didn't get a chance to chat with the mechanics, as it was a Saturday & they were given the day off...but I gather it was a stock replacement, and still needs some fine-tuning as it seemed to hunt quite a bit between lower gears.

Hi if you can could you post some pictures of the m1070 with some of the loads they are moving.nice to see that set up being used In the non military roll.if I lived local to that firm I would be knocking on there door for a job!
Surprised no one in the U.S. has converted one to a recovery truck with a rotator on it for off road and crash work.

I've been told there are a couple here in West Virginia that are being used by towing/recovery companies. I'm trying to get pictures from the guys that told me about them. I'm told one had the winch platform and winches moved to the rear of the truck. I want to see that.

Very nice, Good to here the trailer didn't take much to get right, in the photos on auction the wheels looked turned in every direction but straight. ( I knew the wheels turned on the trailer) but good to know she it putting in work again.
