Sorry everyone been busy at work super structure is all welded up had a minor set back the other day. Went and started the truck. Was letting it warm up and all of a sudden it lost prime and stalled. Had to have cat come out and fix it. Said there was a small chance that may have sucked some dirt or something into the line. But she is back up and running and has all brand new fuel and water separator filters. Here is an update pic of the completed super structureKIMG0284.jpg

This hasn't really gone cold, we just changed gears. We sold the LMTV in the summer of 2017 to Grigsby Trucks. The truck turned out really nice, but for a lot of reasons we had to regroup.

Right now we are almost finished building an expedition truck on a Mercedes Unimog chassis. We loved our LMTV, but when we started over, we decided to go with the U1300L simply because it was smaller, had hydraulic disc brakes, and manual transmission. Pluses and minuses to all these trucks for expedition use.

Im curious how the two trucks fair as you get out of north america into lesser developed countries. They can both be shipped worldwide and it would seem that in europe the mog will far surpass the lmtv in parts procurement, as the lmtv seems to have the upper hand here...but does that mean no parts availability for the lmtv in say, Nicaragua? What about south africa or australia? Russia? Spain? Turkey? Im curious what presence allison and caterpillar have outside the homeland...has anybody looked into this at all? Or do we just assume worldwide travveling requires unimogs

CAT parts for the 3116 are readily available Worldwide. These engines are everywhere and many are still used daily. Tires could be swapped with Continentals. Allison transmissions, I'm not sure. Cab parts often swap with Steyr, BUT not electrical. Unusual parts would require innovation and / or a machinist, but still doable. It is really a game of money. Got money? Got parts! Unimog is the standard in Europe. Easy supply chains. Pricey, but well built stuff. Russians often carry their own mini lathe to make parts when doing Siberia. MAN is a good choice for a truck too.
