When i got my truck, the over-pressure relief valve on the top of the air dryer was broken, not allowing the system to build pressure. Taking it all apart to see how it works, i also found that the desiccant had leaked over the inside. Not able to find parts to repair it, I decided to take the plunge and replace it with the new style. I got the new one from the classifieds on SteelSoldiers.

Over all it is a simple project, and you can re-use all but one fitting. The only parts that i had to buy is the Haldex DQ6051 universal mounting bracket, and one size larger on the NTP fitting for the 1/4" control air line (napa had it in stock). I was only able to get 3 of the 4 bolts to line up with the existing bolt holes in the frame, but after putting it together, i feel that it is more than secured. Also I had to adjust the mounting bracket, by notching it out to fit around components bolted to the frame.

The 17mm bolts holding both style brackets on are a bit of a pain, the back side need a deep well, and you can only use a wrench on the front.

In the process of installing mine once i return from sea, the new ones seem to have a purely better design then the old units. I was lucky enough to be able to use my existing mount, My air lines are a bit crusty so i might just bite the bullet and replace as many of them as i can.

The tube one that's original is a pure air, the one on m939 trucks is the next gen pure air plus and the mrap style, also used on newer LMTVs, is the purest. One gen newer than the pure air plus.

Works great so far. I've got to say the pure air, when I took it apart to see if anything else was broken, looked to be a pain to service. Had to be removed from the truck. Thanks for the parts and info Suprman.

Where did you find the DQ6051 universal bracket?... I keep searching online but coming up with nada.

Also, one other quick question what were the fitting specs for "size larger on the NTP fitting for the 1/4" control air line (napa had it in stock).?"

Thanks!

Thank you sir! Just ordered one....

Do you remember the specs on the fitting that needed to be replaced? is it one of the 90 degree ones in the pic? specs 1/4"x?

Thanks again for your help.

I think it was a 1/4" tube to 1/2" npt 90degree . Went to Napa with the old one, and said I needed the next size smaller on the ntp. They had it on the shelf.

Finished my swap to the new dryer. Windex check before I drove it and no leaks. Had to notch the universal bracket as described. The control, little fitting, is the one that has to be changed. I will post a pic of old vs New fitting tomorrow. Both supply and to tanks fittings fit as everyone has indicated. Works great. I need to find the push on DOT control fitting as I just used a standard compression for the control fitting.

Also what is the part number for the Air Dryer? Can I buy at Napa or a Truck supply chain?

Or is this a purchase from a surplus reseller.

Thanks,

Will this work on an M1088 (not A1)?

I just reused the small fitting on the control line and used a bushing to increase it's thread size. Little cheaper than a hole new compression fitting. Might save enough too buy a beer.

Did you transfer the heater from the old unit?
