M1082 trailer manual, anyone got it in PDF?

Dave, where the deuce may be somewhat under-powered, I'm guessing the MK48 doesn't have a problem with much of anything, right? I never operated one of those because grunts have no business behind something that big, but they look intimidating!

Yeah, the MK and the HET are beasts. If you can attach it, they'll moved it. Lol

I have picked up four of them from Hood. (1082’s) One of them worked properly. The other three had leaks in exactly the same places. I believe all three need the same part replaced. I can’t download the TM (Thank you for finding it!) so, I can’t tell you what part it is that needs to be replaced, but it’s just after the air tank ... anyway ... lots of stuff is just after the air tank.

I had to cage all 4 chambers and the wheels were still locked up. It took a lot of rocking back and forth cussing and kicking.

These trailers are heavy. I weighed my truck (923A2) and a 1082 last week, with nothing in either 30,100 lbs. that’s a lot of weight rolling down the highway empty.

Would hate to pull that with a 3/4 ton with no brakes.

The file is huge, so it is slow to open/download off the net. According to my computer's whining about the download, the virus scan on a file that size was the slowdown.

The PDF works fine once I got it into the computer.

They are big, heavy trailers. Data plate says 7005# empty. Both mine came off Ft Hood, brakes were caged when we picked them up, but both worked fine behind the trucks (I pull them with 5-tons, M931 and M813). Ft Hood cages all the 1082 brakes so they can roll them around the yard with a big forklift.

I agree with almost everything you said.

A couple things I would like to point out for potential buyers to keep them out of trouble.

They do not cage ALL the brakes at Hood. Of all 4 trailers I got, none were caged 3 were locked up badly with bad air leaks and I had to find (or bring) bolts to cage them, and then fight like heck to get them unlocked.

Also, they like to pick the trailers up with the forks, which may account for the broken parts by the air tank (still have not downloaded and identified the part) and I want to point it out so people don’t get into trouble thinking their trailers will roll. These are all recent, all were all in the last 12 months.

So, if you go to pick one up, bring caging bolts. Don’t steal someone else’s ... mainly because half are gone anyway and it’s not nice.

O’Reilley sells them, they are cheap. I keep 10 in my toolbox just in case.

Also, the guys they have working down there at Hood now are a lot nicer than your average “Joe” if you catch my drift. They are what customer service should be. GP has picked some very helpful guys. What they may lack in experience in military equipment knowledge they make up for with determination and helpfulness. I give those guys two thumbs up. One of them gave me a heavy duty ratchet strap because I forgot to bring enough.

I shall amend my own quote to "Ft Hood caged the brakes on all of the M1082s I have seen personally, and I watched them moving the trailers around the yard by the pintle with a big rough terrain forklift". ;)

I agree that they are very helpful there. The last M1082 I picked up didn't have a landing gear crank handle. Even though I'd brought the one off my other trailer with me, they dug another one out of a tool box and gave it to me.

I also thought that the guys I dealt with when GL ran the shop were great too.

wasnt trying to call you out, just wanted to save people the anguish I went through. And you bring up an excellent point that I forgot about.

Handles!!! They are all gone, stolen, borrowed, never to be returned again, etc. Those guys did do a good job of scoring a box of handles for me and others in a pinch.

Just FYI, a handle from eTrailer that fits any of their big jacks will fit these trailer jacks as well, but, you need a pin or a bolt that fits in where the normal 1082 handles pin would go (1/4” maybe?) to make it work.

Rory, your info was good, my experience was just different, that’s all. Thanks for sharing.

No worries! If my experience was different than what others have encountered, that information needs to get out there.

I was lucky in all three M1082 recoveries I made, because there were no issues. In fact I recall commenting about the one I picked up for agazza that the only thing that kept it from being a perfect recovery was that it was pouring rain. If everything had gone perfectly, the world would have tilted on its axis or something!

Good info on replacement handles.

Ha, yeah. You were lucky.

On two of mine, the guys gently set 1101’s on top of my 1082’s (saved me two trips) They still sit there until I build a gantry to remove them.

I’ll give you an hour to find a tree tall enough to do that on my ranch. :)

Actually, we do have some down by the river. But, the gantry is high on my list anyway, so it’s kind of an excuse to build one, even though I could
unload it with the tractor or find a tree.

I have ave plenty of trailers. It’s gantries I’m short on.

Yea, me too. Been thinking of an A frame on a truck with winch, for lifting and moving things.
