M1101/2 Side Extensions?

I have an M1101 that I use to haul loose items and it would be convenient if the sides were 18" - 24" taller. I wanted to post something here in case someone else had already skinned this cat. My tentative plan is to build some corner brackets that will bolt into the place of the bow pockets. Between the brackets I intend to run some 2"x8" or 2"x12" horizontally (like on a landscaping trailer). Has anyone tried that before? Is there a better solution? My gut tells me that this is the kind of thing were some CAD, a plasma table and a brake would make a nice kit.

There have been a few people who used the troop seats from a HMMWV to extend the sides, and then fabricated something for the front/back as needed. Other then taller walls, this also has the side effect of additional seating for (low speed) parade routes.

I've got a set of HMMWV troop seats.

And I seem to remember @CARNAC having resolved this through other means.

Is the cargo cover able to be used in conjunction?

I'm traveling so I can't provide any pictures until I'm back.

I'm using the cover that was made for the trailer. The front headache rack if you will is one half of a troop seat and it did require that brackets to hold the front hoop be modified ( stretched longer) for the cover to fit properly.

The cargo cover that is designed for the back of the HMMWV with the troop seats installed is a few inches shorter than the overall length of the trailer.

Hopefully that makes sense. The Vehicle cover is too short for the trailer, in turn the Trailer cover would be too long for the troop seats installed on the truck.

One more item worth noting is that the trailer cover is an even height front to back, and the cargo cover for the truck is lower at the 1st hoop than the rest.

P.S. my install did require drilling some holes in both the troop seat as well as the top flange of the trailer.

I was however able to use the existing well-nuts in the corners of the trailer. These are hidden blind holes in the corners with no access to hold a nut unless you wanted to punch even more holes

I also shorten the seat section of the truck troop seats and installed a second bulkhead. This set up gives me a drivers section, ability to have ample room for two rear ridders behind the driver, and a rear cargo area. It can be seen in one of the photos.

I've got an 1101 with a cargo cover. I've got a set of HMMWV troopseats new in crate.

After seeing your pic, im tempted to combine the two..

I'm super pleased with how it turned out.

You will actually need two sets of troop seats to do what I did. I'm using a set and a 1/2 if you will, as the headache rack is 1/2 of a set.

If that's a sticking point for you PM me. bought a stack of the seats and i'm pretty sure I have an odd ball 1/2 set still.

Before anyone decides to try and educate me on load capacities, I'll share that this load was moved on my own property not public roads and at low speed.

I'm fully aware that i "may" have exceeded the rated load limit just a little.....LOL

That being said with the side boards and hoops installed it increases your ability to carry stuff...
