M1123 rear springs question...

So everyone complains about how stiff these springs are, and with an empty truck I'll agree they are pretty stiff.
I'm sort of having the opposite issue right now, my rear end is sagging compared to the front due to the amount of weight I have in it. With the BEOD (Body, Explosive Ordnance Disposal for those that aren't familiar with the acronym) I'm at least an inch or more lower in the rear compared to the front, and it bothers me.

So the question is, what are my options. Is adding a spacer my only real solution to raise it up, or is there a taller/stiffer spring available to replace what is in there? My truck had the MAK installed/removed before I purchased it if that makes any difference.

I added a frag kit and doors to my m1123 and it didn’t budge the truck.
you could put in M1151 variable rates, but you may need to install new upper casted spring mounts.
how heavy is that EOD unit?

As my truck sits right now it's just over 9k lbs. I keep some gear in the truck all the time (5 fuel cans, 3-5 water cans, tire chains cut down from semi chains with extra cross links) that are part of that, so if I had to guess the BEOD itself is in the 2k-2500lb range. All the weight is in the back is the issue, if the weight was centered better it wouldn't squat in the back I think.

I am looking through the parts manuals I have, and in the 387-24P for the 1113,1114,1151,1152 it's only showing the rear spring seat for the M1113, but not for the other variants. Don't suppose you have the part number for the upper cast spring mounts to go with the M1151?

Are there multiple cast mounts for these? It appears the ones in the rear are already the cast style.

I swore something was mentioned in the ASL book 1 or 2 for the M1151

S9I5360-01-457-8018SPRINGEA2
S9I5360-01-457-8029SPRINGEA2

5360-01-179-4106SPRING - FRONTEA2
5306-01-524-6029SPRING - REAREA2

ATTN: TACOM LARs

ISSUE: We have received reports from the AOR that the new M1151P1's were sitting very low on the front springs/suspension, with only inches of travel (ground clearance) remaining before bottoming out when traversing rough terrain.

This condition was not demonstrated during vehicle testing and initial engineering analysis determined the M1113 Front Springs were sufficient for the M1151 GVW. However, based on above stated field reports, PM-LTV and AM General reassessed the suitability of the M1113 Front Springs on the M1151P1 (or M1151A1 with B1 Kit) and determined that the armor and overloaded condition of vehicles in the AOR would require M1114 Front Springs (NSN 5360-01-457-8029) in lieu of the M1113 Front Springs originally tested.

Therefore, the M1114 Front Springs were cut into production on 17 May 06, with effective vehicle serial number of 235652 for the M1151P1 (or M1151A1 with or without B1 Kit).

The field is authorized to install the M1114 Front Springs on those vehicles prior to the serial number cut in should operational modes dictate. Both front springs should be changed at the same time. The TMs will be updated during our next manual change package. A Maintenance Advisory Message (MAM) is currently being drafted for staffing and a PS Magazine Article will be published to help cover notification of this change. In the meantime, please feel free to pass this information to the units you support.

Hope this helps. Keep in mind, these are new NSNs so they may or may not be hitting FEDLOG yet. Also, we are currently working out initial buys.

Just some snips from some messages on the 1151, hope it helps

Thank you.
I'm not having any issues with the front springs right now that I can tell, since all the added weight is in the rear of the truck, but I will definitely keep this in mind in case I do need to increase the front spring strength/height

UNderstand, however, they also mention the 6029 for the upgrade M1151 rear springs with or without B1 kit. That 6029 spring might help you

I have gone back and read, what component was your 1123 assigned, AF or USMC

It was a USMC truck out of Yermo. As far as I could tell it had MAK armor (it was stripped down when I bought it and a lot of extra holes in the body, along with random bolts/brackets all over), and a 2010 rebuild.

You already have them, not all M1123’s have them, I’ve had more without than with new style casted uppers.
So all I would need is a set of the heavier springs?
Just want to verify there isn't anything else I might not be aware of.

EDIT: I'm thinking I should probably identify the springs that are currently installed before I go spending money to "upgrade" them.

you can install variable rate springs...the 1123 is using a fix rate on the MAK trucks,

Correct, M1151 P1 use springs from M1114 ending in 6029 I believe
