Collecting from Chambersburg PA - does anyone know if I am ok to leave there with a temp plate and light bar behind a vehicle and NOT on another trailer? (Need experience/fact, don't need opinions.)

I've pulled a generator (12/16) and 2 separate generator trailers (7/17) out of Chambersburg with no probs. Pulled them back to Virginia behind my personal F250. Several guys have indicated that PA DOT likes to hang around and snag folks picking up stuff. VA does not require a tag for a dedicated equipment trailer and maybe this is why I've been able to sneak through. Helpful guys at the GP yard, too. They used their fork lift to set the trailer right onto my pintle hook.

I did the opposite trip back in 2015. I picked my M116A3 up at Portsmouth VA and pulled it back to PA. I made an adapter ahead of time for the NATO trailer plug, and swapped in 12 volt bulbs, so the trailer lights functioned normally. I also got a temp permit at a VA DMV on my way down before picking up the trailer, and taped it to my vehicle’s rear window. I never had any trouble with the police in VA, MD, or PA.

Just reprinted NY DoT form MV 274 - "Trailer type vehicles not requiring registration" that I'll take a copy of with me - all I have to do is pull off the tool box that is mounted on the front of the frame and throw it in the pickup.

Examples given:- generators, log splitters, welders, tar kettles, compressors. BUT, any tool boxes or non-permanently attached items void the exemption.

I'd call it a filter box and leave it as is.

Could not find the grease cap in the M116A3 TM but the axle on mine looks just like the ones on the LTT family of trailers. The LTT grease cap is:

Above NSN from TM 9-2330-392-14&P

Suspect it's this one, but Parttarget talks ID and etrailer talks OD

try croft trailer for the cap. These are common civy 8 bolt hubs that use standard marine and trailer parts except for the parking brake handles and cables.

They sell them every day zeb. If I wasn't retired I would loan you one. The light bulbs are 24 volt but they will still shine with 12 volt. Bring 4 chain links for the added length needed for the safety chains.
When you heading out?

Thanks all for the info. Looks like I'll be needing a parking brake handle too - any thoughts?

Special shout out to Simp - good to meet him late last night. Did the pick up for me and got it to within 2 hours so saved me almost a whole day. Also got to see his M916 and M870 in action. Sure some of the drivers in the truck stop were wondering what the heck these two clowns were up to as he dropped the goose neck to transfer my trailer.

Just picked up and pulled two 1102 chassis trailers from PA last week over 800 miles to Missouri. Hooked up wiring adapter checked hubs often and was on my way. Had spare tires and lots of tools just in case including full wheel bearing set and seals. No temp plate. Had mag lights if needed but trailer lights worked.
