Aluminum PTO

I have an aluminum housing PTO that came off my 1952 M35 Studebaker. The truck was a decontamination unit. I can find no information on this PTO. Is it a civilian unit ?

Now, that is an interesting find! I had never seen it before. This is not covered by any of the TM's we have seen so far.

I like the fact that there are no extra gears turning all the time, when not engaged. It is clear that it would also work fine on a 3053 tranny.
Assuming the driven gear is a T25 (?) then the output shaft would turn 440rpm, for the 3052; and 663rpm for the 3053 (@ 1000 engine rpm). The direction is CW when viewed from rear to front of vehicle.

I saw a similiar PTO on a gasser deuce a while back. it was rear output only and i believe the transmission was a non-overdrive unit. This Gasser deuce was a converted cargo I think. I believe the transmission would be the 3052. I was surprised to see rear output only for this gasser transmission. Did did all factory deuce dumps (M342?) all come with winches and if not? Did they have the front and rear outputs and only use the rear output if it did not have a front winch?

I have owned 2 M59 gasser dumps. Both were wo/w. Both had the standard winch PTO with the aux rear drive. This decon unit may be unique to the decon trucks.

Yes it is a T25. I've looked all over checking even the Chelsea and Muncie and Spicer units, no match. Also interesting to note is the first four numbers of this unit "3052" .
Does that mean it was designed just for the 3052 transmission ? Is this military ?

This PTO unit was obviously made for the Spicer 3052 transmission, long before the Multifuel/3053 era. Since the 3052 tranny was used in civilian trucks also, this PTO is probably not specific- military.

I get excited when I see M135 and decontamination in the same sentence but I don't know how that would fit an M135....yet.

I'll post a pic of the schematic of #7412710 - Power-take-off out of the SNL G749 (M135) parts manual.

Did you mean M35 decon' unit?

Yes it's a M35 1952 REO Gasser. I have 2 1952 M35's and one M135 truck. I forget sometimes which one I'm talking about ! Then there's the new one M35A2C !
