After all the consternation and headaches, the old 6x6 seems to be running pretty well. Problem is, I really do not know what we did? On the advice of an old experienced mechanic we put the old original coil back in the truck. At the same time I used a vaccum gauge to adjust the carb and timing as best I could. We also changed the oil and replaced the generator and compressor belts.
When we took it for a run it ran fine. ran it several times over the next few days and then the real test, a 25 mile round trip to attend a 4th of July parade. It ran down the four lane easily at the 55mph speed limit.
So thanks to all that offered opinions and advice, we appreciated it all. Next up I am going to try and get the oil pressure ga working? I'll probably be on here bugging you all again.

Great looking truck, paint and markings are first rate! That is actually the correct color for 1951.

I painted that truck in Dad's backyard, outside. He said it didn't matter, that when he was in the Army he saw men painting them outside often. Just so they had something for the men to do.
I sprayed it, then he bought the stencil kit.
We have his Korean War unit on the front bumper. 7th Division / 32nd Regimental Combat Team. Other number represent his birthday, 9-10-29, his birthday.
I really appreciate all the help you men gave us.
That's Dad with his truck
