M151 Mutt heater in a Deuce

I've been contemplating a hot water heater for my Deuce and am thinking I'll go with it mostly for the defrost capability (thanks to the several posts about it) and it just so happens I have a M151 Mutt heater that's been laying around for several years. I've been searching half the day for a pictorial of this exact install, there are lots of mentions about it but it appears nobody has done this and documented it, or have they.......

For those unfamiliar or can't recall.....
The blower mounts on a plate (not pictured) on top of the hotbox and can be rotated and turned any number of ways (depending on where you want the outlet) and is designed to be in-cab.
If someone has done this I'd really like to know how it was set up and which diverter (outlet is 3") would be easier to fabricate in to the system.

I have a couple of friends who have Mutts with heaters nearby. I'll try to get a few pics tomorrow when the sun's up and bright. It sounds like a good plan to me.

I thought seriously about the electric heater route until I remembered that mutt heater laying in the back of that old motorless cj i've meaning to put back together. It's small and from what I've read works well but I lack a little confidence in the fabrication dept.

I finally gave it a shot and got it installed. Ran out of daylight so I haven’t plumbed it to the hot water yet or decided how I’ll run the electrics. I didn’t use the diverter as I was getting frustrated looking for the correct ducts and reducers needed to make it work. Right now all I have is defrost to the driver side so I’ll have to think of something to split the duct to the psgr side defrost. I also didn't think the placement of heater hose through the firewall, they come out rather close to the exhaust and had to do some fancy maneuvering of the hoses, we'll see if they'll be ok there

You sound like the British, most of their tanks have water heaters on them. Because you know when riding into the apocalypse you have to have your tea.

On the other side you sound more like it is for defrosting the windows.

I have a M151 heater that I was planning on installing in my deuce also. I just haven't figured out the correct way to get it mounted yet. I have the heater hoses already to go.

I wish you would've gotten that installed sooner!! I'm not a fabricator, just don't have the "vision" of the finished product but I got it in.

Maybe I should have tried getting those engine coolant plugs out before I spent all of yesterday installing the heater. Got all the fittings and valves for plumbing it this morning but couldn't budge them. Every configuration of wrench and socket I had just slid right off. Do you think anybody has square sockets in stock, not a chance. Wasn't a complete waste of a day though, I filled the radiator back up and went for a nice long drive.


Not to fret, there's always this.......

I wonder if that really works ? On the fittings try hitting the ends with a hammer. Soak them with some remover like PB blaster and then try to remove them again.

Another week and still not completed. I was out of town working a part-time gig Wed-Fri, the mechanic shop next door was going to loosen those **** engine coolant plugs so I could finish the plumbing but..... I hate to have to buy a torch setup just for this.

A plumbers propane torch will work. They sell these at all the major hardware stores.
