New Seals gaskets and complete degrease, clean and repaint.

Wish I had taken a few more pics when i first started, but here are some more recent ones. Just finished up the driver's side suspension this past evening. I did not use the 106mm overload springs in the rear b/c I would not be putting the full weight of all the equipment, specifically ammo, in the rear.

I am not sure where they put these together at, but every roll cage on the D's look like it was the first day on the job and the guy had never wielded before! I know when Artillerydan restored his he spent a lot of time grinding and re-wielding his.

There is not a part number on the data plate and it appears that it was professionally made custom for these mutts. I have 2 extra ones, one is promised to a friend of mine who also has one of these jeeps along with a few other parts I'm sending him. The plate is riveted to the right of the gauges between them and the glove box.

Quick question, why does your info box say "Banned" above the Steel Soldiers Vendor info.

the one that Dan has is a USMC version and the one I'm in the process of restoring is an Army built one. Funny thing about them is, as you said, the welding was messy. Seems to be a trait across the branches. The worst part of the welding was the passanger side support plate that goes in front of the wheel well. Looks like they cut the angle wrong and had too much space, so they threw in a 3/8 or 1/2 bolt or two and welded them into the mix to take up space.

The worst part about doing this restoration is doing messy welds. I'm a decent welder and can do nice pretty welds, but I had to make wrong settings and do a poor job to make it look original again. If I was Dan, I would of left the welds as they were. That was the way it was put together and I prefer to keep stuff as close as possible to the original as I can, including crappy looking welds.

did a few more things, installed glove box (no pics this time), finished the skid plate, redid the fender molding. Enjoy.
