M35a2 air filter question

Ok was doing some maintenance on my deuce this morning and I removed the air cleaner. Not too bad, but a new filter is in the mail, so here's my question. There are two holes in the main body of the filter housing, the large hole is for that mushroom thing (air intake), but to the rear of the housing is an open old with a hose fitting, but no hose. What is that and what is it supposed to be connected to? Thanks. I did a search and couldn't find anything so I thought I'd post this question, since you guys have been awsome to a newbie. Thanks in advance.

You're probably right Tom, I just looked at mine and the tube that sticks out is too far from the bottom to be a drain. I guess any water would just collect in the bottom.

If you are not going to use it, cap it off. Otherwise critters get into it and make nests inside the canister. Prior to capping mine off mice got into it and had quite the habitat going on inside. Once I started the engine it looked like someone had a pillow fight that exploded and I had to buy a new filter as the pleats were jammed full of debris.
