m35a2 lift pump, IP questions

Hello,

This might be a dumb question but I am gonna ask it anyways.

I've got an AM General m35a2 that I dropped a rebuilt 465 LDS motor into about a year and a half ago. I noticed that my lift pump does not seem to be running continuously or sometimes at all. From what I can tell, it looks like the wiring going to the tank lift pump is just shot and needs to be replaced. The lift pump is a rebuild as well as was installed when I did the motor swap.

Since I am newer to the MV world, I wanted to know if its a bad thing to run the truck occasionally without the lift pump until I can get the time to replace the wiring and plug going to the lift pump? I drive it to work about once a week to keep the batteries charged up and fluids spun. Its a 10 mile drive each way on flat, highway roads with several stop lights. The truck isn't loaded down or anything and as far as I can tell doesn't seem to be struggling to run. I am just concerned if I am doing anything that could compromise the injection pump, since the lift pump is not currently working. My experience with other older diesel engines (semis, tractors, etc...) is its not great to let em sit so that's why I've been continuing to drive the truck about once a week or at a max of once every two weeks.

I found a couple other forums that others users had stated similar problems, but figured it was worth asking more directly and hopefully getting some good feedback from those of you with a lot more experience with these rigs and even better if maybe you worked on em in the service.

Thanks for the time and feedback!

I put 200 miles on mine with the lift pump inoperable, I wouldn't advise it but in a pinch it is possible, just puts a little extra "strain" on the IP. You will definitely notice harder starts if/when the truck loses prime, as it takes FOREVER for the IP to pull fuel from the tank, all the while the IP is spinning with little to no lubrication.

Good news, the wiring is easy and should only take an hour as long as you have the schematic, which if you don't, I will gladly drop here for you.

If you can share those with me that would be awesome! I looked at the wiring and it doesn't look complicated (especially coming from me) but any diagrams to help guide the way is always appreciated.

I figured it probably wasn't ideal for the IP to have the extra work on it but I also thought that maybe the occasional drive on easy road probably didn't hurt it much either. The only time I noticed it taking a while to start was with cold weather, I don't think the truck has had issues losing prime. I actually took it for a quick spin today to just drive down to the mailboxes and it fired right up without issue.

Thanks for the reply and info! I appreciate it!
