what is the best lighting set up to use on newer trailers. will led lights work with the 24 volt system. I really don't wont to buy the 900 dollars conversation box. id like to be able to just put led lights in my trailer and be able to haul it with my pickup too.aua

It's pretty easy to make your own converter box for the lights. That's what I did. It was easier and cheaper for me to do that than replacing lights on just one trailer, plus I can now pull any civilian trailer.

The 24v from the lights on the truck activates the 24v relays. When the relays close, it sends 12v to the civilian trailer plug. A 24v to 12v converter from amazon will supply enough power for trailer lights. Electric trailer brakes might need a bigger 12v power source.

Another option is to mount a second trailer plug on your truck, which is 12 volts. Using either the "RV" or the commercial 7 round pin plug. I used the latter, with an adapter for the RV plug.
