m35a2 won't start

OK, I jumped the terminals on the solenoid as described above, nothing moved, just a small arc. Removed the cover from the solenoid & wiggled things around a bit. Eventually I got the starter motor to turn, but it wouldn't engage. Seems I've got a bad solenoid.

Thanks for all the help and tips, it's sure helpful to a noob like me.
