M35A3 Seat Parts Compatibility? Better seat comfort than the A2?

I have a seat from a M35A3 which has the high back to it. My problem is that the adjustment knob is broken off. The shaft itself broke right where the knob does on (the knob got hit when the seat dropped) and I need a replacement. Also the upholstery is faded pretty bad and I would like to get new for it. I was wondering what other vehicles used these seats so I could better search for replacement parts. Also I was wondering if anybody switched from the M35A2 spring seat to the M35A3 seat and thinks it’s a better seat? I am wondering if I should fix up my A3 seat and put it in my Deuce or just stay with the A2 seat I have now. Decisions, decisions.

Hmmwv seats fit perfectly onto a m35a3 drivers seat base. I know this because I have 2 in my deuce. Much more comfortable than an a2 springer. Be aware that an a3 driver's seat base will block the master cylinder access door on the floor. I have a remote reservoir so no big deal. The A3 seat is also a little higher. So your legs may bump the steering wheel a bit when braking or using the clutch. Again no big deal for me. I also have a hmmwv seat base. It's not a suspension base but it's very adjustable. P.m me if your interested.

Thanks for the pictures Welldigger! Could the seat base be trimmed to get to the master cylinder cover? So the seat bottom and back are the same as a HMMWV? what about the adjustment knob and shaft? I wouldn't think it is specific to the A3, correct?

Yes, you will have to trim a hair off of the base if you want to open the hatch without removing the seat. If you set the base in the truck it will be obvious what I mean. The actual seat itself is the same as a hmmwv seat. The size, shape, bolt pattern on the bottom, everything.

As far as the adjusting knob, here is what I suggest. Look up the NSN and see who the manufacturer was/is. I bet you can still get parts. The A3 suspension base looks a lot like other mechanical suspension bases made by bostrom, grammar, seats inc, etc.

I know this is an older post but I cant seem to find a parts breakdown for the seat assembly itself. I would like to fix the adjustment knob shaft and possibly get new upholstery for the seat so I can use it.

From my research the company that made the seat is Isringhausen (ISRI) and the model might be the 6030 / 880NTS. I will call them and see if they can get my the adjustment shaft for this seat.

Look at your pictures above............... see how the open end of the base is facing forward?

Unbolt the base, flip it 180° so the closed end faces forward and not only does it bolt into all the existing holes in the floor, but it clears the master cylinder access door.

I also have dual M44A3/HMMWV seats in my truck. Drivers side is an M44A3 seat and base. Passenger side is my original springer base and a HMMWV seat mounted using a set of homemade adpater brackets I made. Waaaaaay better than the standard spring ride.
