M38-A1 wanna-be

started with a new M38-A1 windshield frame then everything went crazy.Never thought that spare parts would end up as a complete jeep.I know that most SS members like originality but i just couldn't help myself.found a fiberglass cj5 tub laying around and steel fenders from about a 1969 and bought a chassis on line that was a restore project.so far have rebuilt buick oddfire v6 (sat for 4 years never started)--new aluminum racing radiator--hummer seat cushion fitted to original cj5 seat frame--new gas tank--new altenator--added black out light to fool parade watchers.Not a restore of an M38-A1,but an interesting Cj5

I think it's cool. Add stocker looking rims and an M38A1 grill and you will fool even more folks.

Also, drill a large circular hole in the right-side body panel right behind the fender to mount the below items including a slave cable adapter (you don't even need to hook it up electrically), you'll fool a LOT of military vehicle enthusiasts as well! Not to mention top bows, machinegun mounts, front shackles. It all goes downhill from there!

Then again, a lot of other agencies, and even the DoD, bought CJ-5s for base use, so even if it's not a M38A1, it can look the part...

Mike is right, you should investigate M606A2 and M606A3 (24V Version) . basically a militarized CJ5 . quite commonly surplus-ed in Canada and S. America.

.i cut the slave unit in it's entirety out of my spare M38-A1,but decided not to cut the huge chunk out of mu fiberglass body.The top i found laying in the mud at hawkmans favorite junk yard,the owner practically threw it at me so i decided to decorate the jeep with it.this cj had the original rears ,yoou know ,the kind that you can walk alongside the jeep and pick up cans alongdside the road.I also raised the body 1 and 1/2 inches with all new steel mounts.Unfortunately i'm 70 years old and this being my # 26 jeep redo.I once had a cj2a with a front end loader.many a deuce and ambulances.I used to pay $400 and had as many as 8 at one time in my garage,those were the days!!!!
