What should I be looking for? I only see some rotting hoses? Maybe a little leakage at pitman arm.

Well CSM,that is not a M52A1 with a Mack,it's a M52A2 with a multi, but yes, that is the correct early Ross Hydrapower steering box for the M39 series trucks,I have 2 or 3 here with then same type steering.

Thanks AMGENERAL but it has a made by Jeep data plate, it's a Mack?
Whoops,

Sorry CSM,you stated in your first post it was a M52A1 5 ton tractor,an A1 designation led me to believe it was powered by a ENDT 673 Mack engine, not the truck was made by Mack trucks inc.

The 3 pictures showed it was powered by a LDS 465-1A Multifuel, which SHOULD make it an A2,maybe the data plate was never replaced when it was repowered.

Depending on the year model,it was probably manufactured by Kaiser Jeep Corporation, just like the 1965 M52A2 I have.

No biggie I might be wrong on a1 don't know a lot about these old ones.

Some M50 series 5 ton engine bays.

First is a Continental 6602 gasser.
The second pic is an A1 with Mack engine.
The third pic is an A2 with a multifuel engine.

If I took pics of the Rossi system could you tell me which side is the pressure line?? I just want to make sure that its the pump is working before I pull the entire column. My IP is coming out at some point so it will be a no brainer to pull the pump if its bad.

On the slector valve,
The outer lower hose is the return
The outer upper hose is the pressure
The inner (engine side) lower hose is the left steer power hose
The inner ( " " ) upper hose is the right steer power hose

Sweet, I will check it out tomorrow and see what I got. The M-62 I have was upgraded to the later steering and OMG it is SWEET!!!! spoils the **** out of me when I move it around. I have thought about upgrading the M-54 but I have talked myself out of it. I got enough to do.

Ron,
When you filled the system back up, what did you use for fluid. Ive heard OE10, Hyd oil and ATF.

While I am at it, I am going to build up a bunch of new hoses as I need to replace the ones on my M-52. They are starting to look pretty dry.

the gear box takes gear oil, 1" below fill plug, we used hyd. oil, it is the same as 10wt, but has anti foam and anti corrosion additives for the steering reservoir, I would never run atf in a hyd. system.
