M817 Belt Tightening Question

I cannot figure out how to tighten the center upper most belt. It is a single belt and runs to the pulley of the compressor/fuel pump.

I understand how to tighten the alternator and power steering pump.

Any help would be appreciated.

The waterpump moves.

The belt does not go around the water pump. It is the pulley above it and it only goes to the compressor/fuel pump.

Open the TM, and read the belt adjustment procedure.

The waterpump is the highest thing in the center of the motor.

Below that is the fan.

This too, is 100% clear in the TM.

I am on an island with limited bandwidth for internet. I know about the TM's and have multiple trucks that I am running commercially - I am asking for help and advice because I need it. If your response is to read the TM - Do Not Respond.

It is 100% documented in order(correctly) in the TM.

Use a computer, download the TM(should have done this long ago), and follow the intructions.

Here's the non TM version, loosen the bolts, rotate the pump and the belt gets tight.

Have a new gasket available, as the old one may leak after you do this.

So, you have multiple 809 series trucks, and you have repeatedly failed to maintain(tighten or change the belts on), and prepare yourself ahead of time with TMs.

Construction,

There are (6) screws on the water pump ring. Loosen them and use a prybar, held by a helper if they are available, to tighten the belt to the proper tension. Once the tension is held with the pry bar, tighten the (6) screws. You may see some leakage from the water pump depending on how long it has been in place with out adjustments. Hope this helps.

Doubt a pry bar will move it if it has been there for a while, especially if it was put together without anti-seize, I would use a hammer and drift pin, there is ridges on the water pump housing made for this, if the water pump was installed without anti-seize there is about a 90% chance the pump will leak after the adjustment is made because the seal WILL gaul.

Thanks guys. I am getting a small amount of leakage now. The belt is now at max tension. When I replace it, what besides the bolts would I use anti-seize on?

The copper sealing ring, do not be afraid to use the anti-seize on it

Clean both sealing surfaces around the area of contact(to allow movement).

A light application of anti-seize(as Ron suggested) copper or aluminum based.

Tighten them all in proper sequence.
