Two of the four 6TL batteries have died (8.5 and 10.1 volts - 0 charge), I went to the local battery store (yes, Interstate specialist who have supplied pallets of 6TL's to local armory/base).

I had followed their suggestions for 'rejuvenating' them with standard (heavy duty charger on wheels) and "Genius" chargers.... Nada.

I asked them if there was an alternative that was cheaper than four new 6TL's (the other two are 2000 - so 17 years old and not recommended to pair up with 2 new ones). They said that two 8D's (big bulldozer ones) would work (which I have in the M816) until I told them about the center cable zig zagging between four of the posts and the 12v requirement.......

When I drew the wiring connections for the 24 volt start and 12 volt service they scratched their heads..... all of the employees. There was doubt in their eyes at my diag, then much Google'ing, then I remembered I had a pic on my phone: (much exploding hand from face ["blown mind"] gestures.

Bottom line is that they did not understand why there was a link in the center of the middle cable (.. - + .. ) and said they would call me back when they had done some research.....

All the Google search pics for 12/24 batteries showed two short cables in the middle - each having two lug clamps, not one cable with four lug clamps...

SO - has anyone got any answers, 'have dones' or suggestions?

NB. Yes I did try an in-thread search for 6TL, 12/24, series/parallel wiring etc.
...... quote for 6TL's; ~ $200 ea!

You can install two 8d's. You have to remove the little dividers that separate the 6tl's. They are wired the same as a LMTV, not like a 939 series. You will have to get rid of the jumper wire that goes +/-/+/-. Just wire it like it should be with two batteries and you won't have a problem.
