Hey guys i just scored a m923 a2 for parts last night. It has no engine or trans. I was wondering on a good plan of attack. I only have to move it like 10 miles but i have no tow bar. I dont if maybe somebody sorta close to me in Michigan would have a tow bar i could borrow. My other option is borrowing a big tractor and hanging it off the 3pt to get it home. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like the member on the member map close to you is pyro1955 over in Carsonville , I don't know if he has a towbar or not and he hasn't logged on in over 2 years . I got a set of 1 inch feet but no tow bar yet . Your kinda in the middle of nowhere .

I have one you are welcome to borrow. Looks like about a 2 hour drive for you each way, x 4 total to get it and return it, so if you are OK with 8 hours of driving, I'd be happy to help. You break it you replace it in a timely manner type thing, of course.

You may be able to do it with a chain and your truck, but I would do it in the middle of the night when nobody is on the road. Go to a NAPA, they have glad hand ends in stock, make up a low cost set of air lines to run the brakes from truck to truck. If you sit somebody strong in the cab, they would be able to turn the steering wheel as long as you are moving. I have the air hoses also if you do want to borrow my tow bar. I don't have the fancy tow lights like all the rich folks here do. :)

I would probably have to cap all the air lines that hooked to the engine first though wouldnt I

I wouldn't. That just has too much potential for a rear end collision. I did similar with a pick up truck once. It was nerve wracking.

Also, turning those 14.00R20s without power assist is no trivial exercise. Again, a big opportunity for badness.

I like the tractor idea better than the tow-it-with-a-chain idea.

But you're going to want a towbar at some point anyway. Sounds like a good time to make a purchase (no, I don't have any for sale).

Only couple of air lines to 8.3L engine. One from the compressor which may have a check valve, and one to the fan control. May be a small hose signal from air governor to compressor unloader also, check the diagram.

You’ll need air to release the spring brakes anyway, unless they have already been released with bolts.

I’d chain it up very close to your other 5 ton, old tire on the front bumper, and go. Each their own, as always. Middle of the night, go slow, be careful, it should be fine.

Well, you have a few choices. Engine and trans are missing from towed truck, so that drops significant weight from it. The vehicle you would be towing with will weigh more, and M939 brakes are superbly powerful.

Tow bar offer stands if you decide.

Absolutely agree with 'DO NOT' tow it at night!. And in addition remember you have to have brake lights and turn signals. ( trailer board..easy..cheaper than a fine!) My oft repeated motto.." the best (only) way to keep out of trouble"..is to "NOT to get into it in the first place"!.
Keep us informed of your recovery method with (the obligatory) pictures. Good luck.

Im pretty fortunate you have to really do something wrong around here. Like try to fly a plane full of drugs into the airport in the middle of the night before they seem to notice.

Maybe if your a local , Tuscola , Huron and Sanilac counties are like the bermuda triangle if your from west of M-15. I used to work for a excavating company out of bridgeport every time we went out that way we spent more time stopped than working.

Ok so i got it home today! My buddy that helped me said it was are smoothest operation yet. It was all in all pretty uneventful. Had to jerk it a little to get it up out of the holes. I almost forgot to document this so i didnt get pics of that. The last picture is of it safely at home.

So ive been looking this truck over. Mine is a non A designation 925 so i dont really need any of the A2 specific stuff. Most of the ctis stuff looks pretty new. Is there any value to it or maybe if somebody was looking for some stuff? Do you guys think it would be worth posting in the classifieds on here?
