we bought a scrap big cam motor and are going to "steal" some of the parts and do a little transplanting. ill let you guys know how it turns out

What are you gonna transplant? Two different animals. Anything that makes HP on the BC won't work on the 250 AND, the 250 has no piston cooling nozzles. Increase HP you increase cylinder temps and IF you want to load it like the OP does, you'll hurt the engine ant it'll cost more to fix it than you paid for the whole truck

Adding the pulse manifold and turbo will not add HP, that's made by adding fuel. See above.

I recently purchased a 1987 M923A1 which i can say is in very good shape. I've been to lots of diesel shops and injection specialists, they all say the same thing. "Do not waste your money on the 250". Best shot is to get your hands on a big cam cummins 400 and complete the swap, as per the guy above me said. I'm collecting as much info as i can to complete a 8V92 Detroit swap in mine, but i just cant get away from how much i like the original factory build of a military truck.
I bought a 8V92 Detroit a while back and have been looking for a truck that would work well (assuming I will never be able to afford a HEMTT). I liked the idea of buying a M925A2 as a donor vehicle for the engine swap, so if you end up changing to the Detroit, please post the project.

I am so far behind on other projects, it's going to be at least a year before I start my conversion. Working on the deuce is my first priority.

whats the difference in the BMY trucks with their motor and the regular M900 trucks motor power and turque?
I have the 8.3 in my M927 and it is still wimpy even though it has a turbo.

The M915 is the only truck the Army every had that would run with the big civy trucks......the 16 speed CAT provided the gearing the 400 Cummins needed to get out there and stroll.

We convoyed them to CA from GA and I was running 85MPH (after we turned the fuel to them).

When they changed over to the Allison the speed was cut back to around 62 MPH wide open at 1900 RPM.

You are not going to get civy performance out of any tactical vehicle......they were designed to haul cargo over various types of terrain at low speeds while being driven by young soldiers.

To expect otherwise is setting the vehicle up for failure and yourself up for disappointment.
