Hi All, I just picked up a 1984 923a1 truck. The door windows are so out of alignment. They don’t even come close to the gaskets up/down, in/out, or left to right. I was going to try to do the adjustments but since it’s a hardtop and the top will never be removed has anyone ever made door windows frames to bolt/weld on to the door that the window glass could seal too, then the door glass frame fab would then seal to the gaskets on the top? Basically looking to make something similar how a regular pickup truck door glass would go in to the door itself. Hope that makes sense.

I wasn’t sure if there was something aftermarket. Was thinking if I brake some 14 ga steel to make a 3/4”x3/4” channel +/- would work. I could weld it to the latch side of the door then weld it to the triangle stiffener on the hinge side. Thanks! Bill

Why "reinvent the wheel"...? Believe me, if done right, a restored door will open/close like the old fridges; seal fairly well all around; no binding or rattling of the window at any position and cranking it up and down takes just two fingers!

Been there - done it, many times. And sure enough I'm not the only one...

Here is one of many threads about fixing those door windows...

Thanks! Yea I definitely need to dismantle the door and see what’s going on with the window crank.

I recently stripped out the windows & parts to rebuild in my M246. Used all new window channels and gaskets from Big Mike’s. Cleaned up & greased the regulators and door latches, then reinstalled. What a difference! Everything now works like it should and was well worth the cost & effort.

You have to pay particular attention to the placement of the window regulators when reinstalling inside the doors to make sure everything functions as it should...IIRC there is a button-head type of mount that slips into a track inside the door; one of mine was popped out when I rebuilt it and the window didn’t want to function; it was a pain to even remove. There are also 2 little pieces of steel angle screwed into the window frame to adjust the proper height of the closed window that may or may not be present on your existing setups.
