Was high bidder on Ft Riley M923A1.....curious how challenging it is to pick up there. Tried contacting the number and employee GP has located there, but so far unsucessful. Interested in anyone else's experience and advice.

I've bought a lot of trucks from there and so has 98G. The guys are friendly but you need to schedule everything through GP's main office. There was a recent management change at Riley so YMMV. Best plan for a few bad tires, dead batteries, and a little bit of murphy but otherwise I bet you'll do just fine.

Take 2 known good batteries with you. Don't try to charge the utterly dead batteries that'll be in your truck with the trucks alternator as this will fry it.

There's a motel 6 next to the sapps truckstop off exit 295. The motel is a good place to stay and the truckstop being right there to park the truck and do a full PMCS on it before proceeding further.

I'll presume you've read all the "how to recover a truck" threads and won't rehash it all here. . .

I was there 3 or 4 weeks ago to help a buddy pick up a M923a2. Have to go thru the main gate to get a temporary ID to get on base if you don't have a military ID. Nice guys at the lot. Yes bring batteries. Ours was missing an engine oil dipstick and a worker went and got one for us. Luckily the engine oil was full. We stayed at a motel about 4 miles west of the base/fort. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear of the lack of cooperation from the depot. Hope all goes well and you have a solid purchase. A decent drive home and have fun experiences with your aquisition.

Thanks guys. Does anyone know if govplanet ever gets back to you? Had to provide a time of arrival to them, but cannot get a response.
The central office doesn't talk to the site. If you make a pickup appointment with the central office (as the instructions state) the site will be surprised to see you and won't he expecting you.

Best bet is to contact the site directly. I sent you a PM a couple of days ago, offering site contact info and other info.

The lack of communication between central office and the actual sites has been universal for all GP sites. The central office makes and schedules pickup appointments, and then the site is like "who are you and why are you here?"

The site people have all been very accommodating and helpful, and the customer service line has always been friendly. Just apparently there's no communication between the two.

I called back. Ring no answer, for extended time.

if you have any doubts about the truck, take your other 5ton and towbars and airlines. The extra fuel is nothing compared to a big truck tow.

All auction trucks are a gamble, but ft riley trucks are more of a gamble than most.

Follow-up....

govplanet folks at Ft Riley were good to work with. No problems. Truck fired up and made the 300+ mile trip with ease. Thanks for everyone's help.

Congrats!! Got any pics of the new motor pool addition? What shape is she in? Any traffic dilemmas? Good to hear that G.P. folks were good to deal with. Getting to be a recovery specialist.=)
