Truck is in Indy, I'm in central VA. I have tools and a lot of mechanical experience (30 years as an auto tech). I saw it run and move, but that guarantees nothing, I know. Should I take batteries? Are they the group 31's? What else should I plan on bringing for this trip? Any help or advise offered is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jeff.

Last July I picked one up 860 miles away and drove it home and last November I picked one up 20 miles away and drove it home (both from GL). Is this from GL or an individual? Were the tires low or flat where sitting?

Search this site for "Inspection Indianapolis or Indy". You will find a guy Bob I believe, he inspected one of the trucks I picked up from Indy. It will save you from buying a bunch of batteries and fluids on a maybe need. He'll give you a good idea of what you're dealing with, he reasonably priced and the local GL folks know him.

The tires were up and they looked almost new. The canvas is on it, so I don't know if there's a spare in the back or not. Hoping there is one! Thanks for the encouragement. Any idea what fuel economy to expect? I'm hoping for at least 6.5 mpg..

I would bring at least two group 31 batteries, 8 ton bottle jack, 1.5" socket, extension, bar for changing a tire just in case, and a strong back.
You forgot 1 thing , a credit card with a high dollar limit and a list of heavy tow , towing companies along the way.

And he forgot to put his state in his location, and try to post in the appropriate forum.

All sounds like a fun trip...... I'd love to do this with one I am waiting on but NY doesn't do "Transportation Tags" into the state, and the State where it is doesn't do them at all! So it's gonna have to be carried!
Dare I ask how you are overcoming.. wrong word, I mean organising the legalities of on hi-way recovery?

So have you downloaded and read the -10 TM ?
Do you have a laptop or tablet with the rest of the TM's downloaded if needed for roadside repairs?
Have you prepared a pre-trip checklist and a plan for inspecting and making needed repairs before travelling across several states ?

I had a truck at Indy and found Bob Rainville , local guy at Indy who did preview of truck and helped get me to local truck stop and out of town.Nice guy and reasonable cost for a set of eyes on truck so far away. BOB RAINVILLE (317) 710-2240 He previewed a truck and later picked up a trailer and stored locally for me. I am in West Virginia 4 hours away and a eyes on preview worth every penny. Tell him WV Mark Sergent 5 ton with generator and mkt field kitchen and hummer trailer says hello.

I have a heavy haul lowboy on standby if needed. Not sure about legalities? He can haul up to 60k lbs with no permit, but I'm hoping it's close to roadworthy. Taking my father in-law as backup with a trusted vehicle if we need to park and run for something.

I looked for the TM for it, but wasn't able to find anything that pertained to my 923A2. I'll look a little harder today to find and down load it to my Toughbook. I do have a CDl and will pre-trip it to death! Thanks for the help Sir!

They are part of the 939 series and available in the technical manuals section . Even with a CDL not reading the -10 can cost you thousands in repairs , these are not civy designed trucks.

Perfect, thanks. Understand the gravity of taking care of all the details. Called Mr. Bob just now, and he's laying eyes on it for me today. I don't plan on going too fast, too quick once on the road. Any idea what the fuel MPG should be? Top speed is probably less than 60MPH I'm guessing.

Bob was happy to hear from you Mark. He said to hi you back. BTW, my truck checked out great with the exception of missing tail lamps, one headlamp, low coolant and black oil. Not too shabby!
