I recently picked up an M923A2 that was super clean but a non-runner due to the typical loss of fuel prime. After I got it running I noticed a metallic pinging coming from the drivers side around the IP. The tach cable adapter/connector is MIA. The fluids are good and brand new, no blow by, runs like a champ, but I'm at a loss as to what it could be. Would the missing tach adapter cause something in the IP to be off balance? Disregard any fuel leaks in the video.

Hopefully its something loose like the pulley mentioned or a bracket or the fan. Maybe the fan belt hitting a loose bracket or something. A little worried might be a loose gear in the accessory drive section for the air pump or injector pump etc.

Nope. It is the gear train. Absolutely normal to hear that when the screw on cover for access to the f/p shaft nut is not in place. Install the cap and you won't hear it any more.

Excellent! That's what I was hoping to hear but so far no luck coming up with the part (MIA).

It should look something like this but without the little breather filter. You can probably use one off of a 5.9 core engine out of a bone yard. It's just a plastic half turn widget.

I'll put this up here so anyone else that needs parts can get numbers to point them the right direction. The capscrews, or bolts, are not special, it lists the size in the note field. The washers ARE special, so they should be ordered from Cummins.

Solution:

The sounds were taken care of with a cover, WillWagner is indeed correct in his diagnosis and repair. I will have to source some other internal components related to the tach assembly to get it fully operational again but at least it's nothing serious. Thanks!:goodjob:

All the p/n's are in the above attached PDF. Print it and take it to a Cummins dealer/distributor.
