I'm having to pull and redo all the side wall insulation and panels due to rot and wanted to know what they used as insulation. I don't need nor want to dig into the front of the box where all the heating/AC unit/known asbestos is, just the expanding side panels.

If the van still has the fuel heaters, then the asbestos mod has not been done. When the asbestos removal op was done, the AC was replaced by a heat/AC combo unit. They actually didn't remove the asbestos. They just sealed up the fuel heater vents that contained it. These are all in the front wall of the van. So just as note to anyone replacing panels and stuff in these things, the asbestos is still in ALL of them.

The best stuff out there is Tuff_R rigid insulation. It comes in a variety of thicknesses. Has the best R value of rigid insulation. They also use it on flat roofs under the rubber membrane. It is water proof closed cell. Some Home Depots sell it. If not try lumber yards or roofing suppliers.

You can supplement the rigid foam panels with some cans of expandable foam to fill in any gaps. The rigid panels are a lot less messy to use than spray foam.
