Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks for the suggestion, I assume you mean Guy M Turner? I've seen their cranes driving around, but never thought to check with them. On the website they got some trailers that make the 5-ton look tiny.

SouthJL if you strike out there I have had very good luck with USHIP, they hauled an M920 to me from Sacramento CA to Fargo ND for 3700$ the driver was so accommodating through it all I gave him another 200.00 for being so helpful!

I would avoid a third party and call the shippers directly. I've been left in the dust on Uship

There are a few members here near Indy that may pick up and hold it for ya till you find a reasonable price or time to go get it yourself. Too heavy for my 923 to tow. Maybe tow my 923 behind it? lol I'd be down to move it if need be.

I'm not sure what you consider a good rate, but Rounders Logistics (a forum member and vendor) has been very competitive on other quotes I've entered. They have a nice price estimate page with all these vehicles in their database. Here is a screen shot.

I have no affiliation with aforementioned freight company. I just like the detail on their online estimate tool.

And for the record it will fit on a stepdeck trailer. Some may suggest rgn or lowboy. The issue they may have is will the ramps on their stepdeck will handle the weight.

Thank you all for the advice. If it wasn't for this website, I probably would never have considered bidding on a vehicle like this.

Fly there and drive it home....
I've already bitten off a big bite... so I'm not quite prepared for a 550 mile recovery on day 1 of owning a MV. Though it does sound like a great adventure.

That's what I'm afraid of... the ramps, especially if I end up going through Veritread or the local freight broker. I saw a video on you tube of them loading a wrecker on to a stepdeck. Had the ramps reinforced with cinder blocks in a few places. I thought... no way that is going to hold the weight. It almost did, luckily for them only one of the ramps collapsed and they managed to just drive the rear end up on the trailer. I almost think it would have been perfect if they didn't stop on the ramp.

I just found the video again, and it might be a SS member or former member. You can skip about half way through the video.

Wes it is a bad idea on many levels I have refused to put wreckers on stepdeck trailers many times. The boom is going to be over height on most, the deck on the trailer is not rated for that much weight in one spot for the front tires, I have seen them bust through on a good trailer, ramps are expensive to buy to handle the weight of a wrecker, only ever seen but one set made for it, top heavy bad, use the RGN or low boy and make life easier.

I know they are heavy. Wasn't sure on the boom height. I had a transporter quote me on a stepdeck one time for a 936 i was looking at in montana. With most people its about costs. I know my rgn was 2k from kansas to here for the 934.

I hate to burst bubbles, but a step deck with ramps will haul it just fine. I hauled my m816 on my step with no problems. The ramps are rated at 23,000 per axel, not per truck with jack stands. CSM Davis you seen my ramps when we loaded the m927 out of you're yard, a few years back. The weight on the deck is not a problem either, I've hauled many of PLS trucks for the DOD.

Yes brother but you are the exception, not even close to being the normal stepdeck operator.

Christmas in July

Thank you all for the suggestions. I got a little inpatient and went with one of the Veritread shippers. Local company didn't have any trucks in the area, so wasn't able to provide a competitive price. The local broker was in the same price range, but never dealt with GovPlanet and flatbeds are their specialty. Couple of hours after I accepted the Veritread offer, Rounders got back to me with a slightly better price. Way better than the online quote estimate from then. No fault of them, like I said I got inpatient and I just didn't wait long enough.

So far the Veritread shipper is working out good, loaded up on time, and is one the way here. Yesterday I was promised pickup today and deliver by Thu or Fri at the latest. Now scheduled for 9-11am delivery tomorrow. Not sure if everything just fell in place, or its the good old under-promise and over-deliver. Either way, I'm happy so far. Good thing I don't have any scheduled meetings in the morning. I'll definitely have some pictures in the morning, will just need to break away from my new toy long enough to upload them.

It's on a step-deck, but it looks like they have a heavy-duty ramp on the trailer.
